Approximately 5 km from Granbell Hotel and located amidst the hustle and bustle of Pettah, Jami Ul Alfar Mosque is a beautiful sight to behold. Since its construction in 1908, the Red Mosque has been a landmark for sailors approaching the Port of Colombo. Its distinct red and white spiral/stripes design can be seen around the streets of Pettah and easily stands out from the rows of old stores and buildings.
As this is a place of worship, modest attire should be worn before visiting the mosque. Both men and women are required to cover their arms and legs, and women are expected to cover their hair as well.
